CAW’s Summer 2011 P.S. 192  mural is a part of of CAW’s Summer ArtWorks program.

CAW’s Summer ArtWorks is a transformative seven-week jobs program that employs 50-70 low-income teens to create public art while learning employment, leadership, public speaking and art skills. Former summer projects have included building concrete benches and designing and building a theatre in a local park and painting large scale community murals in Northern Manhattan. In 2010, 60 teens led by professional artists created four stunning murals and six vibrant banner designs in the new Harlem River Park. 100% of our summer youth demonstrated an increase in professionalism and skills during our program; staff evaluations solidly demonstrated the development of of job, decision-making, team work and problem solving skills. CAW has worked with leading muralist, Janet Braun-Reinitiz, who has overseen several years of successful Summer ArtWorks murals. In 2010, CAW staff was recognized by The City Council of the City of New York with a City Council Citation for its professionalism and exemplary service.
